Arrival
First I need to provide an update on the previous post about the lucky Hampton Inn find in Oklahoma, the one we were exulting over... that one. I posted that before we discovered... the really big cockroaches.
Word to the wise... if you spot one of these, quietly murder it and dispose of the body. Despite their size, you will not hear it scream if you should nonchalantly stomp on it. Never-ever say to your wife "What IS that?!" Positive identification is not important. Peace, peace of mind is important. Ignorance truly is bliss.
There, got that out of my system. Moving on...
We are here now, Raleigh, our destination. We drove 3,306 miles to get here.
And we are still married.
I know some of you were wondering.
We arrived Tuesday afternoon, Hurricane Irene had already moved north, but we arrived at rush hour, in the middle of some other freak thunderstorm that didn't have a name. We headed directly to the apartment complex I had tentatively arranged. While we were there we watched the wind uplift and launch 2 patio tables with umbrellas into the pool. That was interesting.
The apartment looked ok, but the next day when I got the paperwork, I noticed they raised the rent $100 plus announced their intention to levy a charge of another $100 to use my credit card. That was annoying enough, but when I was searching through my emails for previous correspondence I found a very early one I hadn't seen offering me this exact same apartment for $1,500/month vs. $2,500.
Okay then. It seems I have arrived in Rip-Off City. Combine the above with the big notice on the bulletin board in the office with a phone number for the police and I don't want to stay in this place. It's a shame I've been subsisting on fast food, I'm not on my game. If I'd had more energy I would have flipped over some furniture and done some yelling on the way out. You know... expressed my dissatisfaction.
That Harriet, I've got to keep on eye on her - she's going to get us arrested.
Oh well... moving on...
We think we've located a corporate extended stay place for a couple months. We hope to relocate there tomorrow. And then we can eat real food and wash our dirty clothes and life will be good again.
